Different Genres of Hip Hop Beats

Hip Hop has come a long way and has dug its self deep into mainstream culture. There was a time when hip hop was strange and taboo to major parts of the world and even major companies would stay far from it. In this day and age those old facts are long gone and hip hop has made its way into just about every form of major media outlet none to man. The culture has expanded and so has its sound over the last 25 to 30 years.

Eminem on Hip hop beatsThere was a time when hip hop was so simple and the beats were just a few tracks and sounds. This has changed over the years to the point that hip hop has genres of sound that were all birthed in different parts of the US. Starting with its birth place in the bronx New York, the sound behind the rapping was simply called hip hop beats. There was no other way to describe the beats. From inception, it was all considered to be hip hop.

As the culture grew, so did the sound and before you knew it there was house music. This was an up tempo clubish sound that rappers started rapping to. Many Rap Beats in the early 80's came out with this kind of rap beat sound. As the hip hop movement went on, there was another sound introduced in the late 80's early 90's which introduced west coast beats. This style of music brought funk and a swing type of style of beat making to the hip hop game. Artist like Easy-E, Dr. dre and Snoop dog help pioneer the movement with many other popular artist at the time to make the west coast beat sound one that would be around for a long time.

Dirty South Beats Came Into Play

During the Mid 90's more and more groups from the south started to get their shine. Artist like Outkast, 8 Ball &MJG, David Banner and the Goodie Mob were some of the first to get the south moving while they rapped over dirty south beats. Beat makers have come to know Dirty South Beats more and more as the south grew more in hip hop. This style of beats was mainly produced with out any hip hop samples as producers where doing for the east and west coast beats. This new sound took off with fancy programming on drum machines. The sound brought the 808 sound of the early 80's back and gave it a new twist. Today the dirty south beat sound and its influence is more mainstream then any other sound. Rappers like Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Wacko Flocka, and many others today are selling millions of records with the dirty south sound.

Rap beats lil WayneHip Hop culture has always been driven by the music. Many raps and freestyle's over hip hop beats have influenced the way youth respond in our society today. One song can make an entire generation change its slang. Just think, Lil Wayne years ago rapped about bling and made a hit song. Corporate America took the slang and pushed product with the phrase that was created in hip hop.

Who is more important, the artist or the Music Producer?

Hip Hop Instrumentals and Rap Artist go hand and hand because you can't have one with out the other. Many would argue if it wasn't for hip hop instrumentals, rap music would not be as popular as it is. This is an ongoing debate with music producers and artist that will never have a winner. The truth is the culture is here to stay regardless of who's more important.
